2021 Manchester United Home – Pogba #6 XXL

Season Overview

The 2020–21 campaign was a season of real progress for Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjær. The club finished second in the Premier League, which Wikipedia lists as their joint-highest finish since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. United topped the table briefly in January after a run of late wins. They also exited the EFL Cup at the semi-final stage against Manchester City and lost to Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals. In the Champions League they finished third in their group and dropped into the Europa League.

That Europa League run produced the season’s defining night. United reached their first final under Solskjær, but Villarreal won it on penalties in Gdańsk, so the season ended without a trophy. For collectors, that makes this red Adidas home shirt the kit from United’s closest-run campaign of the post-Ferguson years.

Player’s Impact – Paul Pogba

Pogba wore the number 6 and was one of the season’s most talked-about players. In December his agent said he wanted to leave. The Frenchman then played his way back into favour and scored key goals as United briefly hit the top of the table. His back-to-back winners against Fulham and Burnley were among the moments that lifted the club into the title conversation.

Across all competitions he made 31 appearances, 11 of them off the bench, and scored six goals. Three came in the league, one in the EFL Cup and two in Europe. A thigh injury in February kept him out for several weeks. When he played, he gave United’s midfield a drive and match-winning ability the side often lacked.
