More About this
The 2017–18 season was another era-defining campaign for Juventus, as the Bianconeri extended their domestic dominance under Massimiliano Allegri. Juventus completed an extraordinary domestic double, winning Serie A and the Coppa Italia, reinforcing their status as Italy’s pre-eminent force.
In Serie A, Juventus finished champions with 95 points, pulling clear of Napoli after a tense title race. Allegri’s side blended tactical flexibility with experience, often switching between a back three and back four while relying on control, efficiency, and decisive moments. In the Coppa Italia, Juventus lifted the trophy with a commanding 4–0 victory over AC Milan in the final, securing their fourth consecutive domestic double.
Europe brought frustration. Juventus advanced from a difficult Champions League group before producing a famous 3–0 away win at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals. However, a controversial late penalty in the return leg ended their run, eliminating them at the quarter-final stage and denying another deep European push.
The 2017–18 Juventus third kit, produced by adidas, became one of the most distinctive kits in modern football. Featuring a black base with a bold neon-yellow lightning bolt graphic across the chest, it broke radically from tradition. Designed to reflect speed, energy, and modernity, the shirt was polarizing at launch but has since become a cult favorite and a highly collectible vintage football shirt from the late-2010s era.
2. Player’s Impact – Paulo Dybala
The 2017–18 season represented a turning point in the career of Paulo Dybala. Wearing the iconic No. 10 shirt for the first time, Dybala stepped into a role weighted with Juventus history — and delivered with authority.
Dybala finished the season with 26 goals and 7 assists across all competitions, establishing himself as Juventus’ primary creative and attacking reference point. Operating as a second striker / advanced playmaker, he thrived between the lines, linking midfield to attack with quick turns, incisive passing, and devastating left-footed finishing.
His influence was particularly evident in big matches. Dybala scored decisive goals in Serie A title-defining fixtures and delivered standout Champions League performances, including a brace in the group stage against Barcelona. Tactically, Allegri built the attack around his movement and intelligence, allowing him freedom to drift wide, drop deep, or arrive late in the box.
The season solidified Dybala’s status as Juventus’ post-Tevez attacking leader and one of Europe’s most technically gifted forwards. While Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival the following summer would later shift the hierarchy, 2017–18 stands as the year Dybala fully owned Juventus’ attack and identity.
