2014 Argentina Home – Messi #10 Large

Tournament Overview

This shirt comes from Argentina’s run at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where La Albiceleste finished as runners-up. Alejandro Sabella’s side won Group F with three wins: 2–1 over Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1–0 over Iran and 3–2 over Nigeria. They then ground out knockout wins over Switzerland and Belgium. Both were 1–0. The Switzerland game was decided by Ángel Di María in extra time, and Gonzalo Higuaín scored the winner against Belgium.

The semi-final against the Netherlands finished 0–0 and went to penalties, where Argentina won 4–2. That set up a final against Germany at the Maracanã. Germany won 1–0 after extra time, with Mario Götze scoring in the 113th minute. Argentina’s run to a first World Cup final since 1990 made this kit one of the most collected of the 2010s.

Player’s Impact – Lionel Messi

Messi captained Argentina in Brazil and wore the number 10 throughout. He scored four goals in seven games: one against Bosnia, a stoppage-time winner against Iran, and both goals against Nigeria. Each of those came in a group-stage win that helped Argentina top the group. He was named the tournament’s best player, taking the Golden Ball.

For collectors, a Messi 10 from this tournament marks the point where he carried Argentina to the brink of the one trophy he was still missing. This is an original, authentic shirt in 10/10 condition, size Large, with short sleeves and Messi’s name and number printed. It is a one-of-one piece.
